The final match of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 is set to take place this Sunday at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. India secured their spot in the final by defeating New Zealand, while Australia earned their place in the final by smashing South Africa in the semifinals. The hosts, India, will face off against the five-time champions, Australia, in the world's largest stadium. If India wins, it will be their third World Cup trophy, while Australia will claim their sixth if they emerge victorious.
The past two World Cups have
seen the host nations come out victorious, and if India manages to beat
Australia in the final, they will continue this thriving trend. India in 2011,
Australia in 2015, and England in 2019 have won the trophy while hosting. India
has a favorable chance of winning this year's World Cup not only because of the
pattern of hosts winning the title, as it happened in the past three
tournaments but also because of the kind of form Indian players are in right
now.
If India can beat Australia,
Rohit Sharma will join Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni as ODI World Cup-winning
captains. India's first World Cup victory in 1983, under Kapil Dev's captaincy,
made cricket a celebrated game and changed Indian cricket forever. Twenty years
later, in 2003, India reached the World Cup final in Johannesburg against
Australia. India lost the match by 125 runs and eventually missed its second
title. India lifted the World Cup again in 2011 against Sri Lanka at the
Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. MS Dhoni's winning six and the 2011 win are still
fresh in everyone's memory.
Australia is the most
successful team in ODI World Cup history, having won it five times. The Aussies
are known to bring their A-game to the finals, and their experience playing
several World Cup finals is handy. David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith,
Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood were among the 2015 winning squad and will
use their experience to gain the upper hand over India in the final.
Will the Aussies continue their
supremacy and grab another title? Will India hand Australia their first loss in
the final? Find out this Sunday when you Watch Ind vs Aus live on YuppTV.
